Conference Overview

Join over 100 trustees and heads of school for the premiere independent school governance event in the Northwest.  We will focus on the areas where boards are struggling as we move through the pandemic, giving you the information and tools to move your school forward. 

The seminar will be comprised of two workshop sessions. One more tactical, one more reflective. Each will be led by national thought leaders and focus on trends in education, independent schools, strategy and will be rooted in this unique moment in time for independent schools.

Heads of School find this event especially valuable when they attend with their board chair or executive committee, but trustees of all levels of experience will benefit from the conversation.

2021-22 NWAIS Governance Programming - Which Program is Right for You?

 

Building Better Boards: These virtual workshops focus on board operations and case studies. This is best for those who are working on improving how your board functions and in identifying and exploring the role of trustee. This will be especially valuable for those in their first few years of trusteeship.

  • September 17, 2021 – Welcome to the Board of Trustees: Now Just What is Our Job?
  • October 14, 2021 – Delicate and Dirty Dancing - The Board Chair-Head Partnership
  • December 9, 2021 –  Learning from Others - Exploring Case Studies in Governance
  • March 9, 2022 - Learning to Grow - Designing a Board Development Plan

 

Institutional Leadership Through Governance (November 10, 2021): This full day, in-person seminar will provide a deep-dive into an current aspect of trusteeship. It will be comprised of morning and afternoon workshops led by national thought leaders in governance. Heads of School find this meeting especially valuable when they attend with their board chair or executive committee. While all trustees are welcome to attend, this will be most valuable to those with experience as trustees looking to take their board to the next level.

Board Chairs and Heads Partnering to Propel Schools (May 13, 2022): This single-day workshop is specifically built around supporting the special relationship of the Head and the Board Chair as they lead the board and the strategic direction of the school. Attendees have a chance to deepen their partnership as well as developing connections with others who share their unique role in other NWAIS schools.

Cancellation Policy  

Substitutions may be made any time prior to the conference. Written cancellations received by November 1, 2021 are eligible for a refund after a $50 cancellation fee. Cancellations received after November 1, 2021 are ineligible for any refund.  

NWAIS Is Going Paperless. All program materials will be provided electronically.

If there are pre-event materials, they will be sent to you via email about a week prior to the event. Please bring a internet connected device, download the materials in advance or print out the digital materials and bring them with you. We will not have hard-copy packets for attendees on-site.

 

NWAIS May Help Cover Travel Costs

The NWAIS travel reimbursement policy is designed to reimburse candidate and accredited member schools for some travel costs. This policy applies to a school’s total travel expenses (not the cost of rooms and meals), no matter how many people the school sends to the workshop. If your school spends more than $150 dollars on travel for this event and is traveling a distance greater than 250 miles you will be reimbursed a percentage of your expenses.
