Head of School
|Position Type||Head of School|
|School Name||Silverwood School|
|City, State||Poulsbo, WA|
Silverwood School is an independent primary school with 55 students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Sited on 18 wooded acres in Kitsap County’s Central Valley, Silverwood offers mixed-age classrooms, emergent curriculum, small classes, and amazing teachers ready to follow their students' interests. Students are outside constantly, playing in the fields, building forts in the woods, growing socially and academically by being active together.
Silverwood meets its students where they are academically, aiding those who struggle, and encouraging those who are ready to tackle more advanced subjects. Learning is not associated with shame or limitations. The Head of School leads a team of dedicated faculty and staff committed to the Silverwood community and the school’s mission statement, "At Silverwood, we challenge our students to become confident, compassionate citizens and skilled, life-long learners – literate, motivated and intellectually adventurous."
After leading the school for the past five years, Silverwood’s current head, Jon Torgerson, is retiring from his long career in education. During his tenure, Mr. Torgerson has nurtured the school’s community, stabilized its finances, and strengthened Silverwood’s connections to Kitsap County.
The Board of Trustees has launched a search for Mr. Torgerson’s successor, setting January 10, 2020, as the application deadline. Application details may be found here: Head of School Position Statement.
