Mathematics Teacher

Position Type Teacher

School Name Jackson Hole Community School
City, State Jackson, WY
Posted 01/08/2020

The Jackson Hole Community School is a small, independent high school that aims to provide students with the support to thrive in a college prep environment that will prepare them to succeed in college and life beyond. We offer a challenging, academically rigorous program that strives to promote engagement and persistence, provide authentic contexts, and encourage reflection and revision. We expose our students to diverse teaching styles and hire highly qualified individuals to join our collaborative team as we strive to fulfill our mission.

The Community School places emphasis on the “community” aspect of its culture and seeks candidates who are interested in committing to its vibrancy and success. As a small school we come together to help the school flourish, and believe that an employee’s contribution should not be limited by his/her assigned responsibilities. Our expectation is that each employee will operate at a superior level and offer his/her services broadly to serve our students and the school community at large.

Mathematics Teacher

We are seeking applicants to join our STEM team as a mathematics teacher for our upper level courses which include Precalculus, Calculus, and beyond, as well as the Honors sections of these courses. Teachers in our Mathematics department aim to instill habits of mathematical thinking, which will prepare students for further inquiry in math and for the use of quantitative reasoning throughout life. The department's goal is to help students solve problems and to interpret data graphically, numerically, orally, symbolically, and analytically. Furthermore, the mathematics department recognizes that developing a mindset of curiosity and accompanying inquiry leads to deeper understanding. A desire to work closely, collaboratively, and inter-departmentally with other teachers in this effort is crucial.

Preference will be given to those who can teach courses within other branches of STEM disciplines (e.g. specifically biology and/or chemistry), and have interest in bringing interdisciplinary possibilities to reality. This position may be either full or part-time depending on the skills of the applicant.

Other responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading an advisory group of 5-7 students
  • Participating in our experiential learning program (Fall Trips, MLK Day, Community Days, and Minimester)
  • Proactive and timely communication with colleagues, parents, and students
  • Attending occasional evening/weekend school events

Minimum requirements include:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or a related field; Master’s is preferred
  • At least 2 years experience working with high school students
  • Ability to facilitate a meaningful, engaging discussion among high school students
