Assistant Head of School Job Description: Overview
The Assistant Head of School oversees the daily functioning and overall visioning of the school's preschool- 5th grade classrooms and specific programs and activities. The Assistant Head of School is responsible for ensuring classroom instruction, curriculum, and academic interventions are well-suited for the overall needs of North Seattle French School (NSFS) students. To ensure optimal student learning for the NSFS community, the Assistant Head of School continuously evaluates implementation of approved curriculum, as well as studies new instructional materials and methods. Additionally, the Assistant Head of School supports preschool-5th grade academic staff through coaching and mentorship around instructional programs and methods. In partnership with other members of the leadership team, the Assistant Head of School assists in day-to-day operations at the school and overall organizational leadership.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
In coordination with the Head of School and the Director(s) of Curriculum :
a. Drive the school's instructional efforts by setting a tone of high expectations and holding the school accountable for student achievement
b. Engage families in the educational process by facilitating frequent opportunities for parents and teachers to discuss student growth and needs
c. Foster effective school/community relations by working with external partners and independent accrediting commissions; continue process of accreditation by NWAIS
d. Maintain a safe and orderly school environment for both students and staff
e. Ensure approved curriculum is rigorous, engaging, accessible and in line with current research
f. Use multiple data to reflect on student and program strengths, needs and progress and inform instructional decision making
g. Manage classroom and professional development budget with the assistance of the Operations Manager
h. Act as a leader within the organization
i. Meet regularly with the administrative and pedagogical teams
j. Collaboratively set organizational direction and strategy and problem solve big picture organizational questions
k. Work very closely and provide regular updates to the HOS
2. STAFF DEVELOPMENT
In coordination with Director(s) of Curriculum:
a. Supervise all school academic staff in successfully carrying out role-related responsibilities and collaborating to share and leverage their transdisciplinary expertise
b. Meet regularly with teachers to design student-centered instructional practices and offer support with additional classroom needs
c. Coordinate and, as needed, provide regular professional development (includes all curricula used such as Singapore math, Positive Discipline method, diversity, and more). Ensure that all staff is trained before school starts.
d. Work with and guide teachers to plan Curriculum Night
e. Organize and lead the work week prior to school starting
f. Prepare schedules and supervise their implementation.
a. Evaluate implementation of approved curriculum and adjust to ensure optimal student learning
b. Assist in monitoring and analyzing student outcome data to drive instructional decision making
c. Evaluate all professional staff in the School with the assistance of the Director(s) of Curriculum. Ensure all evaluation are in writing and filed accordingly and in a timely manner
4. ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS
with the support of the Office and Operations Managers
5. DIVERSITY LEAD
• Master's degree in education strongly preferred
• Demonstrated excellence as a classroom teacher; 5+ years of classroom teaching strongly preferred
• Experience in independent schools strongly preferred, preferably a bilingual school
• Excellent interpersonal skills and experience in a management role
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• French language fluency preferred
Compensation and Benefits:
Salary is commensurate with experience. NSFS offers medical and dental benefits, retirement plan, paid time off.
