Who We Are
Founded in 1989, KapKa Cooperative School is a small, cooperative elementary school in Seattle. We are a dynamic community of children, parents and teachers working together to create an inclusive, experiential learning environment that fosters capable and compassionate lifelong learners.
We believe children are curious and capable learners. At KapKa, teachers nurture a child’s abilities and passions using experiential and democratic learning approaches. We believe education happens best in relationship with self and others. We aspire for children to become integral members of the school community and the larger community beyond the school.
Our program balances intellectual learning, social skills and emotional well-being using a progressive and emergent curriculum. We emphasize music, art, and imaginative play. We foster creativity, compassion, collaborative skills and encourage curiosity.
Parents are partners at KapKa. They support learning inside and outside the classroom for all children. Together with the teachers they create space for young learners to take compassionate, self-actualizing and courageous actions that grow the individual and the community.
