Spanish Teacher (PT/FT)

Position Type Teacher
Start 07/01/2020
School Name Jackson Hole Community School
City, State Jackson, WY
Posted 01/31/2020

The Jackson Hole Community School is a small, independent high school that aims to provide students with the support to thrive in a college prep environment that will prepare them to succeed in college and life beyond. We offer a challenging, academically rigorous program that strives to promote engagement and persistence, provide authentic contexts, and encourage reflection and revision. We expose our students to diverse teaching styles and hire highly qualified individuals to join our collaborative team as we strive to fulfill our mission.

The Community School places emphasis on the “community” aspect of its culture and seeks candidates who are interested in committing to its vibrancy and success. As a small school we come together to help the school flourish, and believe that an employee’s contribution should not be limited by his/her assigned responsibilities. Our expectation is that each employee will operate at a superior level and offer his/her services broadly to serve our students and community at large.

Spanish Teacher (PT/FT)

Jackson Hole Community School seeks an experienced teacher with native or near-native language abilities who is able to teach various levels of Spanish in either our intensive college-prep program for those who are relatively inexperienced in speaking Spanish, and/or our Spanish for Advanced Language Learners (SPALL) program for students who enter JHCS highly proficient in Spanish and who seek to deepen and expand their literacy abilities.

The ideal candidate has a strong desire to work closely with students and develop meaningful relationships with them first and foremost. This person should have a high level of commitment and knowledge to improve both content and instructional quality. The experiential background to offer authentic exposure both in the classroom and possibly through immersion trips would make for the best fit in a candidate.

Minimum requirements include:

  • Near-native language abilities, with knowledge to reference and coach parts of speech
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, International Studies, Latin American Studies, Mexican American Studies, or a related field; Master’s is preferred.
  • At least 2 years teaching experience.
  • Desire to work closely with a team of teachers

Other responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading an advisory group of 5-7 students
  • Participating in our experiential learning program (Fall Trips, MLK Day, Community Days, and Minimester)
  • Proactive and timely communication with colleagues, parents and students
  • Attending occasional evening/weekend school events
