Job Summary

Gig Harbor Academy is a student-centered school holding to basic progressive education principles, approaching teaching through an inquiry model. The teacher is responsible for establishing a developmentally appropriate, positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment that is conducive to learning. The teacher plans and prepares for learning by designing coherent and innovative instructional lessons and student assessments. The teacher manages student behavior with dignity and creates an environment of respect and rapport within the classroom. The teacher maintains accurate records and regularly communicates with parents.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
  • Provide appropriate feedback on work.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
  • Observe and evaluate student's performance and development.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development
  • Create cross disciplinary learning activities when appropriate.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students and parents regarding student progress and student behavior.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Differentiate learning in order to meet each child’s learning needs.
  • Liaise and collaborate with specialist teachers.
  • Integrate suitable technology in learning.

Other functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following

  • Encouraging parents to be partners in the education of their child by establishing open lines of communication.
  • Participate in appropriate professional development activities.
  • Not required but strongly encouraged, involvement in the After-School Enrichment program.

Candidates must hold a teaching certificate and a minimum of 2 years classroom experience is preferred.
