Middle School Spanish

The McGillis School, an established, independent K-8 school in Salt Lake City, Utah has an opening for a full-time Middle School Spanish teacher, beginning August 2020. The McGillis School seeks teachers who are eager to be actively involved in a wide range of programs, including the roles of academic advisor, coach, and/or experiential/innovative education instructor, as well as teaching within our Explorations Block.

Ideal candidate will have:

? Experience and training with comprehension based teaching strategies, e.g. TPRS and/or a willingness to become proficient with and use comprehensible input methodologies.

? Energy, flexibility, and commitment to working with students inside and outside the classroom.

? A commitment to collaborative planning, research, and analysis/reflection of best practices of teaching and learning.

? Willingness to work with middle school students in various capacities outside of academic teaching.

? A strong background and experience teaching students with comprehensible input in Spanish language and Hispanic cultures.

? A graduate degree in related subject area, teaching or educational studies, or equivalent professional experience is preferred.

? Growth mindset and comfort in taking risks.

? Familiarity with culturally competent teaching.

Job requirements:

? Use comprehension based methodology.

? Plan and deliver instruction in accordance with program philosophy.

? Instruct Middle School Spanish classes at different levels.

? Communicate effectively with students and families on a regular basis.

? Familiarize oneself with faculty and staff members, as well as the larger school-wide community prior to the opening of the 2020-21 school year.

? Attend weekly faculty meetings.

? Engage in professional development opportunities, as well as in the professional growth model specific to The McGillis School.

? Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times.

? Participate in co-curricular program opportunities specific to The McGillis School (Family Group, Shab bat, Advisory, etc.)

? Participate in at least one Class Trip annually.

? Teach an elective class within our Explorations program.

? Serve as a Mentor to a grade-level cohort of 12-14 Middle School students.
