Billings Middle School Faculty Position - Part-Time Art

(beginning August 2020)

Billings Middle School, an independent school in the Northgate area of Seattle, is seeking a part time Art Instructor to join our community and teach in an innovative art program while working with a team of teachers.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced, versatile and accomplished middle school teacher who can teach art in a hands-on, minds-on and applied manner, and participate in activities that support our program. Candidates should have solid experience in guiding a diverse group of learners in both appreciation for and success in art.

Base Qualifications

  • BA or equivalent in art or related field
  • Experience teaching art, preferably at the Middle School level.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction in a classroom with a range of learning skills and styles.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability and desire to collaborate around curriculum and student development.

Additional skills highly valued at the school:

  • Teacher certification
  • Outdoor leadership or other experience in the outdoors
  • Technology literacy & experience integrating technology into teaching
  • Experience working across disciplines.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Teach sixth, seventh, and eighth grade art electives.

  • Attend required faculty and committee meetings as well as open houses, curriculum night, all school picnics and other community-wide events.
