The French American School of Puget Sound is a bilingual French and English school located on Mercer Island for students in Tiny Young Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8. The School’s program satisfies requirements set forth by the Common Core of State Standards and the French National Curriculum from the French Ministry of Education.

JOB TITLE: Full Time Substitute Teacher, Grades TYPK-8

REPORTS TO: Lower School Head and Middle School Head

POSITION STATUS: Full-Time, hourly, non-exempt employee

DATES: Immediately, through June 15, 2021

SCHEDULE: 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday. Will not work during school break weeks.

BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION: Paid hourly at $25 per hour. Eligible for sick time accumulated at a rate of 1 hour for every 40 hours worked. Eligible for benefits: medical, dental, life insurance, STD/LTD.


FASPS is looking for a Full Time Substitute Teacher to work with all grade levels. We are currently offering in-person, on-campus learning. The Full Time Substitute Teacher will work in-person (or online while distance learning is in session) replacing absent faculty from Tiny YPK (2.5 years old) through 8th grade.


  • Substitute where needed, as directed by Lower School Head, Middle School Head, or Executive Assistant
  • Assist faculty with projects, when approved by the Lower School Head or Middle School Head
  • Help with recess, lunch, and preschool nap duties when needed
  • Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with team members, parents and administration regarding curriculum, classroom activities, and student progress
  • Keep records and reports as required by the administration
  • Familiarity with procedures for emergency situations
  • Ability to work with an international and culturally diverse student population
  • Implement curriculum appropriate for grade level and appropriate and effective classroom practices and management techniques
  • Provide a variety of learning opportunities, methods, and materials
  • Acknowledge and plan for the diverse abilities and learning styles within the classroom
  • Encourage the growth of the ethical character of students
  • Impart enthusiasm for learning to students
  • Provide and maintain a stimulating, safe environment
  • Adhere to the health and safety guidelines outlined in the FASPS Covid-19 Prevention and Response Policy


  • Prior elementary and middle school teaching experience, a desire to be part of an internationally diverse community of teachers and learners, and a willingness to adapt to the unique program at FASPS
  • Knowledge of current educational practices and strategies and the ability to use flexible and innovative pedagogical techniques appropriate to a variety of learning styles
  • Ability and willingness to work at both our Mercer Island and Bellevue campuses
  • The ability to be employed in the United States and to pass a background check
  • Fluent in English; fluency in both French and English preferred

A Washington State teaching certificate is not required.
