FAIS is looking for a full time Lower School Division Head to begin fall of school year 2021-2022. The primary role of the Lower School Division Head is to support the mission of the School by promoting and developing a culture of open-mindedness, international mindedness, integrity, collaboration and inquiry among faculty, staff, parents, and students. This position is responsible for all aspects of the Lower School that includes and not limited to recruit, hire and evaluate all Lower School teachers, assistants and staff. The Lower School Division head will be part of the Senior Administrative Team and will be collaborating with the Maternelle Division Head regarding curriculum and supporting the Extracurricular Department Program needs.

Essential Duties:

  • Support the Extracurricular Department in recruitment, training, assignment of substitute teachers
  • Assign teachers and assistant teachers to grade levels
  • Implement, evaluate, and periodically revise the Lower School curriculum in partnership with Curriculum/PYP Coordinator
  • Collaborate with the Admissions Department with recruitment and retention of students
  • Develop appropriate programs of professional development for teachers and assistants in partnership with Curriculum/PYP Coordinator
  • Prepare, develop, and monitor the Lower School budget
  • Communicate with the French Ministry of Education and AEFE to maintain French accreditation
  • Assist French teachers in maintaining administrative leave (détachement)
  • Represent FAIS in issues relating to the bourse French financial aid program, including travel to San Francisco to attend meetings
  • Collaborate with the Business Office where appropriate to administer the bourse
  • Manage submission of Enquête de rentrée (September) and other French statistical surveys
  • Ensure clear communication at all levels between the Lower School, its employees, and parents
  • Liaise with the Director of Extracurricular Programs and Summer Camp Director regarding Childcare Division of Oregon requirements and certification as they pertain to the Lower School
  • Liaise with the Middle School Division Head for the transition between 5th and 6th grade
  • Advise and assist the Head of School in management and administration of the Lower School
  • Collaborate with the Head of School and the Senior Administrative Team to create and implement short- and long-term initiatives and strategies

Minimum Requirements: Professeur des écoles diploma or equivalent; advanced degree in education; ten years experience in teaching and school administration; experience in delivery of the French National Curriculum

Preferred Qualifications: Excellent English language skills; International Baccalaureate (IB) experience
