Professional Opportunity: Lower School Music Teacher (K-5)

Saint George’s School, founded in 1955, is an independent, coeducational day K-12 school located on the Little Spokane River north of Spokane. The Lower School, grades Kindergarten through Fifth Grade, offers a vibrant and challenging academic program which encourages children to explore their diverse world, expand their creativity, develop their sense of self, and build lasting friendships. The personal teacher-student connection fosters inquiry, critical thinking, and risk-taking as each child is empowered to take ownership of their learning and is encouraged to translate their knowledge into action and reflection.

This position will be a .6, regular faculty appointment.


  • Create a positive, nurturing classroom environment characterized by autonomous learning and respect.
  • Design and develop creative and challenging music curriculum using an integrated approach, including proper voice and instrumental techniques, elements of music theory, multicultural music, and famous composers throughout the ages.
  • Utilize different strategies to meet students’ skill levels, learning styles, and social/emotional needs.
  • Foster student understanding of the collaborative nature of making music.
  • Conduct the Grades 3-5 Choir.
  • Produce the annual Holiday Concert, the fifth-grade capstone musical, the Lower School Variety Show, and assist musically during Friday Assemblies.
  • Work closely with other classrooms and colleagues in cooperative efforts.
  • Work closely with a supportive and active parent community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • Previous elementary (K-5) teaching experience is essential.
  • Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree.
  • State teaching certificate required (Washington or other); required degree in music or music endorsement.
  • Orff experience required; certification preferred.
  • Passion for teaching elementary students.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic.
  • Creative, flexible, and takes initiative.
  • Technology literate.

Salary/Benefits: Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with training and experience.
