Are you looking for a stimulating summer work opportunity - one that will allow you to be part of a growing program, work with talented educators, and enjoy a beautiful campus rich in history and technology? If so, Lakeside School's Summer School program is for you!

Our summer program is currently recruiting for a Digital Photography teacher for the Investigative Learning Camp, an academic summer camp designed for students entering grades 5-8. In this class, students will learn both the technical and artistic fundamentals of digital photography, including the principles of composition and basic editing techniques. Each week will culminate with a showcase in which students share their photographs. All courses in the ILC are project based and do not assume students have any previous knowledge of the subject matter. No homework is assigned. The position will be part time. This class will run the weeks of July 15 – July 19 and July 29 – August 2. The class times are 8:30 a.m. – 10 a.m. (first section) and 10:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. (second section). There will be a mandatory orientation meeting on Wednesday, July 3.

Responsibilities

  1. Create the curriculum for this course.
  2. Create organized and engaging lesson plans for each day.
  3. Set up and manage all technology required to teach the class, including cameras and laptops.
  4. Supervise and lead the teaching assistant / counselor.
  5. Supervise and instruct students during class time.

Requirements and Qualifications
  1. A bachelor’s degree, master's degree in education or art preferred.
  2. Extensive experience with digital photography.
  3. Teaching experience with middle-school or high-school aged students.
  4. Experience with curriculum development.
  5. Experience in working with a wide range of learning styles.
  6. Candidates must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check.
  7. Excellent communication and human relation skills.
  8. Strong organizational skills.
  9. Positive and collaborative attitude.
  10. Sense of humor and enthusiasm.
  11. Cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions and an ability to communicate with people from cultures different than their own.
  12. Candidates must satisfactorily complete two criminal background checks.

Compensation
The stipend for this position is $500 per class per week, for a maximum of $2,000. Lunch is included. The course will only run if enough students register. Enrollment will remain open until June 1. If the number of students enrolled is too small on June 1, the course will not run, and, therefore, the stipend will not be paid.
