Oregon Episcopal School seeks a skilled, professional, and culturally competent individual to be its sixth grade humanities teacher. The Middle School humanities teacher works closely with a partner teacher to develop and implement innovative curriculum for sixth grade students that integrates history and English skills and content into a cross-disciplinary class. A successful teacher in this position has the capacity to foster in students an enthusiasm for the exploration of ideas and concepts in a student-centered classroom. This role relies on someone who collaborates effectively with fellow teachers, members of the English and History and Social Studies Departments, and the Middle School faculty as a whole. The MS humanities teacher position consists of four classes of sixth grade humanities. Other full-time faculty responsibilities include being an adviser to a small group of sixth graders and occasional supervisory and chaperoning duties. As OES is dedicated to developing our Essential Competencies in all students, we are looking for candidates skilled in project-based learning who can guide students to learn through inquiry and discovery. This position reports directly to the MS division head. In addition to the qualifications detailed below, the successful candidate will be able to support the OES educational mission.
