Professional Opportunity: Lower School Physical Education Teacher (.6 FTE)

Saint George’s School is an independent K-12 school, serving a population of approximately 350 students from the greater Spokane area. The school offers a vibrant and challenging academic program highlighted by the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program and complemented by a well-developed set of enrichment offerings. The Lower School, grades Kindergarten through Fifth Grade, offers a vibrant and challenging academic program which encourages children to explore their diverse world, expand their creativity, develop their sense of self, and build lasting friendships. The personal teacher-student connection fosters inquiry, critical thinking, and risk-taking as each child is empowered to take ownership of their learning and is encouraged to translate their knowledge into action and reflection.

This position will be a .6 FTE, regular faculty appointment.


Create a safe, respectful, learning environment which enhances the well-being of each student and inspires them towards lifelong fitness.

Facilitate the development or revision of curriculum and instructional materials.

Utilize different strategies to meet students’ skill levels, learning styles, and social/emotional needs.

Develop programs that encourage leadership, problem-solving, and team building.

Incorporate movement-based lessons utilizing skill progression from basic (locomotor) to more complex skills.

Work closely with other classrooms and colleagues in cooperative efforts.

Effectively communicate with colleagues and parents/guardians to maintain an open, positive relationship.

Participate in professional development activities, such as college course work, workshops, professional associations, and in-service opportunities.

Attend all required staff meetings and other activities deemed necessary outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Washington State Teaching Certificate required. Degree or endorsement in Health/Fitness, PE or Health preferred.
  • 3-5 years of previous elementary teaching experience required.
  • Passion for teaching elementary school-age students.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Energetic, flexible, self-starter, and a commitment to participate in the full life of the school.

Salary/Benefits: Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with training and experience.
