The mission of Eastside Preparatory School is to guide students to think critically, act responsibly, lead compassionately, innovate wisely. These four mission components guide the development of curriculum as well as the evolution of the EPS culture. Founded in 2002, Eastside Prep was accredited by NWAIS in January, 2010. Eastside Prep has grown from 17 students in 2003-2004 to a projected total of just under 500 students for academic year 2019-2020. EPS opened a 90,000-square-foot building—housing classrooms, offices, collaborative spaces, underground parking, and a new theatre—in September 2018.

POSITION SUMMARY: Promotes student success by providing feedback, and support for students in grades 5 – 12 on matters relating to school, friends, and personal issues. This position reports to the Director for Student Well-Being and works as a member of a team to guide the development and implementation of programs and practices related to students’ social, emotional, and personal growth.

The School Counselor supports students, grades 5 – 12 and their families in the context of the educational mission of Eastside Preparatory School. Providing this support requires that the School Counselor:
• Collect, organize and analyze information about students through records, assessment, interviews, and professional sources, to assure students and families that the school is responsive to any learning accommodations or other special issues that may be documented,
• Meet and work with students on a one-to-one basis,
• Meet and work with students in small group settings,
• Work in conjunction with school leadership, faculty and staff
• Maintain contact with Learning Support Coordinator, Guided Study Hall teachers, and outside professionals to support the counseling and learning strategies being used with students,
• Maintain contact with students, and parents/faculty as necessary
• Facilitate communication among these various stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Clinical experience
  • Knowledge of different tools used in school counseling
  • Outstanding assessment, research, and evaluation skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with different members of the community
  • Excellent communication skills

Credentials and Experience

  • Minimum MA in Counseling or related field
  • Three years related experience, or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Clinical experience required
