Eastside Catholic DECA Students Compete at the International Career Development Conference


Sammamish, Wash., May 20, 2019 – Congratulations to our eight high school students who competed at the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Orlando, Florida. Students are listed alphabetically by last name below with their hometown, grade and the category they competed in.

  • Gabrielle Iem, Redmond, senior, Gold Recertification “The Cru” Student Store
  • Ann Kauffman, Snoqualmie, sophomore, Accounting Applications
  • Julia Morgan, Bellevue, senior, Gold Recertification “The Cru” Student Store
  • Alexander Sheehan, Bellevue, senior, Sports and Entertainment Marketing
  • Madison Smith, Woodinville, junior, Learn and Earn Holiday Fundraiser
  • Natalie Weed, Kirkland, junior, Learn and Earn Holiday Fundraiser


Each student received a score of "excellent" in their respective categories. To earn a place at the ICDC, each student won a top seven place in their respective state competition. Only one percent of DECA students worldwide are selected to participate in the conference.


Alexander Sheehan was also selected as a finalist and was recognized on stage for one of his role plays in the Sports and Entertainment Marketing category. Only the top 10 competitors in each category from around the world are recognized as finalists.


DECA’s international mission is to prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. Students chose from 25 different business categories to compete in. DECA uses written and prepared events as authentic learning experiences to help students learn and develop skills outlined in their curriculum as well as to motivate and engage students to be academically prepared, community oriented and professionally responsible.
