Eastside Catholic Inducts Students into French, National, Spanish and Thespian Honor Societies
Posted 06/29/2020 12:59PM

Sammamish, Wash., June 24, 2020 – We are proud to announce 59 high school students were inducted into our four honor societies – four for French Honor Society (Société Honoraire de Français), 19 for International Thespian Society, 15 for National Honor Society (NHS) and 21 for Spanish National Honor Society (Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica). Students are listed towards the end of the press release by city of residence.

“I’m proud of these students who are choosing to further dedicate themselves to language, leadership and the arts,” High School Principal Barbara Swann said. “We’re excited to see what these students are able to accomplish at Eastside Catholic next year and beyond!”

French Honor Society (Société Honoraire de Français (SHF)) inductees are Ellora Ahuja, Lauren Barry, Maria Langworthy and Lexi Phan. This honor society is open to students who have maintained an “A” average in their third semester of French studies at the high school level, and at least a “B” average in overall studies, while remaining actively enrolled in French studies during their high school career. The responsibilities of the FNHS members include tutoring other students taking French, organizing and running the French Club activities throughout the year and helping to run Taco/Crepe Tuesday in the fall—a fundraiser that supports Nos Petits Frères et Soeurs in Haiti.

International Thespian Society (ITS) inductees are Matthew Boardman, Lauren Cruickshank, Natalie Ellis, Dani Fisher, Riley Grady, Olivia Ivan, Addison Lewis, Morgan Maloney, Ben McCall, Natalie Nelson, Sam Niehl, Evan Riccio, Sean Rossmeissl, Nicholas Scrimshaw, Jordan Shaw, Jackson Smith, Jamie Smith, Lily Steffen and CJ Tebben. Since 1929, the International Thespian Society has honored student achievement in drama and acts as a club to offer mentorship and support for those who want to gain more experience in theater. It is a drama club with state, national and international resources.

National Honor Society (NHS) inductees are Annaliese Angier, Garrett Delaney, Maya Estes, Jessica Finch, Alexandra Huffman-Gray, Emily Johnson, Victoria Ludwig, Chiara Marrow, Elizabeth Pan, Zachary Sheehan, Anthony Smith, Paul Snyder, Cate Stoutt, Megan Williams and Andrew Wolf. Students are eligible to apply for National Honor Society with a cumulative GPA of 3.7 over at least three semesters while attending ECHS. Applications are assessed by a faculty panel who determine the prospective student’s scholarship, leadership, service and character, the four tenets of NHS. Students who are members of the society complete additional community service each year in tutoring or coaching.

Spanish National Honor Society (Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH)) inductees are Kai Alexander, Grace Burroughs, Abby Coleman, Maia Czerwonka, Natalie Ellis, Jessica Finch, Sophia Friedl, Stephanie Hernandez, Addison Lewis, Alexa Lewis, Quinn Lowry, Victoria Ludwig, Sydney Miller, Kanwulia Onianwa, Paul Snyder, CJ Tebben, Sydney Terry, Ava Uribe, Gabby Vanover, Andrew Wolf and Luli Zhang. Spanish Honor Society focuses on Spanish language and culture and requires student members to maintain an “honor grade” GPA. It is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) and its main goal is to promote the interest in Spanish studies in secondary education.
