NWAIS Fellowship for Collaborative Innovation:
Current research supports the need for instructional coaches not only to support teachers in building their skills but to improve our schools and student outcomes. In the challenging field of teaching, learning-focused relationships are essential to the sustainability of teachers as professionals. Guidance and coaching are critical to the growth and development of all teachers. Just as we ask our students to continually grow and evolve in their learning, we expect our teachers to do the same. The instructional coaching model provides a methodology and process to embed professional development in NWAIS schools. In our project we will design multiple paths for schools wishing to embark on the coaching journey, including models for program implementation and teacher-leader training and support.
